FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions:
What is BattleBots?
BattleBots is a franchise focused on robot combat competitions.
What is RoboGames?
RoboGames is similar to BattleBots, except it includes a broader range of robotic tournaments.
What are robots made out of?
They can be made of anything, but typically polycarbonate, aluminum, chromoly, and titanium are used for the frame and armor. The rest of the robot then consists of motors, batteries, and electronics. These parts are made of the four basic elements of wind, fire, earth, and water.
How do you get sponsors?
Contact various companies that may be interested in your project! These include companies that make 3-D design software, motor components, metal manufacturers, etc. Schools are also good sources.
What is Triton Robotix about?
Triton Robotix is a project group under ASME UC San Diego focused on providing UCSD students with hands on experience in robotics. We also try our best to represent UCSD in robot tournaments. While many of us are “in it to win it,” the main goal of Triton Robotix still remains to be a valuable learning tool for engineering students.
I really like Triton Robotix, how can I help?
If you go to UCSD, you can join the group. If not, you can become a sponsor and donate money, parts, materials, or tools to the organization. For more information on donations, contact us.
Are there girls in robotic type stuff?
Define “in.” There are definitely women involved with designing and building things here at Triton Robotix, but sadly no Robocops or Fembots… yet.
If I want to make my own robot, where should I start?
First, it’s best to determine which competition you want to enter, if any. Each competition has its own set of rules, so read those. Then, we recommend you design the entire robot in 3D modeling software like SolidWorks or Inventor. After that, you can purchase your parts and assemble the robot.
